WeatherAmes began as a solo project for Matt Ames in 2018. In 2019, he recorded some low-fi songs at Ahren Bucheister’s (Black Rhinoceros and Pompeii Graffiti) studio. Looking for a fuller sound, he hooked up with Corey Campbell (SUSTO and Babe Club) who produced his first album, Holy Smoke, which was released in June of 2019.
While playing the newly crafted songs live, Ames began to find the true potential of his songs with Sam Wynkoop, John Silver, Ed Baldi and Brian Moran. Within a month, they became a band ready to make a second album. This time, the music became a collaboration of five like-minded guys in one room. Beginning in January of 2020, they spent time rearranging Ames’ songs and the result was Beauty in the Wreck (appropriately named for the peace found in making music during tumultuous times). The second album was released in August 2020.
The third album, Stone Soup, will be released in the summer of 2021. It was recorded in the fall of 2020 and winter of 2021 in Charleston, SC. It features Charleston artists such as Justin Osborne of SUSTO and Julius DeAngelis, Corey Campbell, and Jenna Desmond of Babe Club. The new album, like 2019’s Holy Smoke, is produced by Campbell.
